Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) is the specific name given to large-section engineered timber structural building panels made from solid wooded boards glued together in cross-lapping layers. Like plywood, CLT is very strong and when designed into a building can replace the structural elements of an entire building construction that would otherwise be built using more traditional materials, such as concrete and steel. The manufacturing process of the product entails taking sustainability sourced rough-sawn Radiata Pine boards and processing them for defects. Shorter boards are finger-jointed together into the selected length for their intended CLT panel, then planed on all sides. The planed boards are placed into a press in layers of alternating direction, with polyurethane adhesive applied between the layers. Pressure is applied, and after curing, panels are removed from the press and trimmed to exact sizes and edge profiles at a CNC machining centre. They are then ready for delivery to the building site. Each panel is custom built to the designers specification. Panel size is governed by the size of the press, which measures 15m x 3.5m. Panel thickness depends on the intended load and span. The most common configurations have 3, 5 or 7 layers, with cumulative panel thicknesses between 60mm and 250mm. Given the variety of panel shapes and sizes used in the construction of project and in order to calculate the various percentages of materiel content for this declaration the following size panel was used: 3.5 metres x 15 metres and 105mm thickness. FSC timber available on request. THIS DECLARE LABEL RELATES TO BOTH TREATED AND UNTREATED CLT. PLEASE NOTE: Adhesive tested in accordance with VOCV - 814.018 VOC Regulation CH for VOCs.
