LouverShade Dual Zone solar control shading delivers a low cost internal system that maximizes available natural light while simultaneously blocking glare in all sun conditions. The upper light harvesting zone (also called Daylight Glazing) uses inverted louvers to move natural light far into space while creating a down shadow angle that blocks glare. Daylight Glazing integrates with all lighting control systems for light harvesting. Lower glare zone (also called View Glazing) provides optimal view while blocking glare. Lower View Glazing also controls heat gain in summer and heat loss in winter. The View Glazing shade cloth is metalized polyethylene terephthalate (MPET) and was originally developed for NASA for use in astronaut space suits and face shields. Its solar control properties are significantly greater than fabric shade cloth that is typical of roller shades. Performance testing for both light harvesting and thermal control are set to commence through the US Department of Energy and Lawrence Berkeley National Labs. This testing will verify that LouverShade Dual Zone shading reduces peak load demand for summer cooling and winter heating while providing superior ventilation air flow for mechanical systems designed for net-zero energy buildings. LouverShade Dual Zone provides an opportunity for the design community to return to the use of natural light as a primary source of workspace lighting. Dual Zone reduces costs associated with electrical lighting by providing low cost but highly effective daylight harvesting that seamlessly integrates with all types of electrical lighting control. Dual Zone directs natural light deep into the space thereby reducing the need for electrical lighting based upon the application of photo sensor controlled continuous dimming lighting control. Dual Zone is available in motorized and non-motorized configurations that can be easily added to existing buildings or to new construction projects. Control can range from simple timer functions to full integration with building management systems.
