As a dietary supplement, it is commonly used as a source of calcium and phosphorus for both humans and animals. In this role, the compound is either used as an additive in the preparation of cereal and grain products or purchased as a meal supplement. In food industry, dicalcium phosphate is also used as leavening agent, dough modifier, buffering agent, emulsifier, and stabilizing agent It is also virtually insoluble in water and is sometimes used by the pharmaceutical industry as a delayed release component in tableting.
Applications: Dicalcium phosphate is mainly used as a dietary supplement in prepared breakfast cereals, enriched flour, and noodle products. It is also used as a tableting agent in some pharmaceutical preparations, including some products meant to eliminate body odor. It is also used in some toothpastes as a tartar control agent.
