Sulfuric Acid is a highly corrosive strong mineral acid with the molecular formula H2SO4. It is a colorless to slightly yellow viscous liquid which is soluble in water at all concentrations. The historical name of this acid is "oil of vitriol." Sometimes, it is dyed dark brown during production to alert people to its hazards.
Applications: Sulfuric Acid is an inorganic acid that functions as a pH adjuster and buffering agent. Sulfuric Acid is used in hair coloring and bleaching products. Sulfuric Acid is sometimes also used in drinking water treatment facilities to remove impurities and create an improved taste. In oil refineries, it is often used as a catalyst in the creation of isooctane. The steel industry also uses it to remove oxidation and rust, either before delivering billets to industrial manufacturers, or prior to galvanization.
