Pigment

Description
Chemical substance, usually in the form of a dry powder and with a positive colorant value, that imparts colour to another substance or mixture by attaching themselves to the surface of the substrate through binding or adhesion. May contribute towards opacity, durability, and corrosion resistance and may scatter and absorb light. Larger than molecular particle size and held in place by corresponding low mobility. Pigments differ from dyes in that they are insoluble in the vehicle and exist as dispersed compounds in paint rather than as a solute. See closely related: dye.
